Alfa Centauri S.p.A. was established in 2006 when a division boasting a ten-year experience in the market was purchased in order to best meet the new requirements of the energy market. The Mechanical Engineering division was created in 2014, when a company operating in the metalworking-footwear sector was absorbed.
The Alfa Centauri S.p.A. Divisione Energia - Energy Division quickly became a reference name for remote meter reading and remote management products and services. So much so that they played a leading role in the Smart Meters ROLL-OUT national plan set by AEEG (the Italian Regulatory Authority for Electricity and Gas) in compliance with the 2020 deadline imposed by the European Union.
From the manufacture of the first level detectors for LPG tanks and the first transmitters to remotely read traditional gas meters to the first series of ‘smart’ gas meters that can remotely ‘open’ and ‘close’ meters, Alfa Centauri technological progress has marked the history of household Gas Smart Meters in Italy.
In 2006, the TekGas WEB platform was the tool used to provide remote meter reading and remote management services. TekGas was the first to use the system that today is called SAC or Central Access System.
In 2007, when gas meters were quite different from the ones known today, Alfa Centauri was already present in the gas metering world with its Blocker: The ‘father’ of all modern smart gas meters.
In 2011, Alfa Centauri becomes a licensed manufacturer of meters and metering system and manufactures the first Italian household smart gas meter, MID-certified and in accordance with Italian Regulatory Order ARG/gas 155/08: The Blocker-04.
In 2012, Alfa Centauri introduces a new range of electronic gas meters addressed to industrial users.
In 2017, the iLock system was created to control the filling valve in LPG tanks- The old ‘lock’ is adapted to the ‘digital’ era.
Today, Alfa Centauri is present throughout Italy with tens of thousands of meters installed:
- It designs, manufactures and markets Gas Smart Metering products and systems.
- It also offers the SAC service with the WEB TekGas platform.
- It gives technical support to customers via its Service Centre that promotes, from a customer-oriented viewpoint, new ways of managing data, contacts and relationships.
